Assets and locations

This module is the “plant register” of PULSE: a map of how your factory is divided into areas, lines and machine positions, and a register of every machine installed in them. Every other module uses it. Work requests, PM schedules, alarms, energy and OEE all belong to a location or asset created here. This page is for the admins and supervisors who set up the plant, and for technicians who look up machine details.

PULSE keeps the “position” apart from the “machine”, the way technicians talk about “pump no. 1 of the cooling water system” versus “this brand of pump with this serial number”.

Location Asset
What it is A place in the factory: an area, a production line, or the spot where a machine stands One real machine or piece of equipment, with its own asset tag and serial number
Example Utilities › Cooling Water › Cooling Pump Station 1 Cooling pump P-101
When the machine fails and is swapped Stays where it is; the position’s work history carries on The old one is removed and a new one installed; each keeps its own history
Menu Location Assets

An asset that is not installed anywhere is floating (shown as uninstalled), for example a spare pump in the store, or a machine you have just registered. Once installed, the asset shows the name of its location.

The location tree has four levels, from biggest to smallest, under your site (factory).

Level Use it for Example
Area A production area or zone within the site Utilities, Packaging Area
Work center A line or cell that groups machines working together Cooling Water, Line 2
Work unit A single machine or piece of equipment (where a machine stands) Cooling Pump Station 1
Component A part or sub-assembly inside a machine Pump 01 of Filler 01

A child location is always the same level as its parent or smaller. A Work unit can go under a Work center, but an Area cannot. You can nest as deep as you need.

Every location has an Installation mode that says how many assets it holds.

  • Slot holds one installed asset. Use it for the spot where a single machine stands. To swap in a new machine, use Replace.
  • Container holds many installed assets. Use it for an area or line where several machines sit together.
  • The asset type says what the machine is, such as Pump, Conveyor or Electric Motor. Each type brings a set of Specifications to fill in, such as rated power or voltage. When you pick a type, those fields appear on the asset’s Properties tab. An asset can have no type; you can set one later.
  • Tags are labels for what is true about the machine now, such as its criticality or the SKU it is running. Each tag has a name and a value, chosen from your organization’s tag list. A machine can have many tags.
  • The status tells you the machine’s condition.
Status Meaning
Active Running normally
Standby Ready but not running, for example a spare
In Inspection Being checked
In Repair Being repaired
Decommissioned Retired. It no longer appears in active lists, but its data and history are kept.

Asset types, the tag list and the list of manufacturers are managed in Administration → Catalog (Organization Admin only).

  • Plan: Assets and locations are in every plan. Each plan has its own limit.

    Plan Assets Locations
    Free 10 10
    Starter 50 25
    Pro 500 250
    Enterprise Unlimited Unlimited

When you reach the limit, PULSE shows Plan limit reached. Check your usage in Administration → Plan & Usage.

  • Who can do what: depends on your user groups, and only at the locations your unit is responsible for.

Built-in user group What it can do
Viewer View locations and assets only
Technician View, and change existing locations and assets: edit details, move, reorder, install, uninstall, replace, change status (except decommission), set tags and property values
Supervisor and Site Admin Everything a technician can, plus create new locations and assets, import CSV, and decommission
Organization Admin Everything, including the Catalog (asset types, tags, manufacturers)
  1. Build the location tree from big to small: area → line → machine position. For many locations at once, use Import CSV. → Locations
  2. Register assets with their asset tag, serial number, model and photo. → Assets
  3. Install each asset at its position. → Install, uninstall and replace
  4. Print QR codes for your machines so anyone can scan and report a problem straight away. → QR codes on machines

The examples in this manual follow one story: we add the Cooling Water system under Utilities, create the position Cooling Pump Station 1, then register and install Cooling pump P-101.
